What is a Book Group Kit?

“Book Group Kits” are a great way for your Book Club to enjoy great discussions— check out a book kit of your favorite title from our library. All kits can be checked out for 6 weeks and each one may contain:

1. Multiple copies (usually 10) of one title. Check library catalog for additional copies.
2. Summary of the story
3. Author Biographical Information
4. Questions
5. Reviews, criticism and/0r further related reading

How can my book group use a kit?

1. The kit is checked out to one book group member who is responsible for returning complete kits, including all materials. Individuals in Book Groups should arrange to reimburse their responsible party for lost or damaged items. Replacement copies must be a paperback copy in new condition with exact ISBN.
2. The group may keep the kit for up to 6 weeks after it becomes available for pick up.
3. Kits may not be renewed.
4. Kits can be picked up and returned inside any of the City of Mesa Libraries. Kits must be manually checked out by circulation staff, not with self-checkout machines, in order to get 6 week checkouts.
5. You may reserve a specific kit up to 12 months before your discussion month by filling out a Book Group Kits Reservation form at an adult reference desk or online at mesalibrary.org. Please wait for staff confirmation of availability.
6. Please wait for availability confirmation by library staff. Another group may have already reserved your title. For best service, give the Library at least a week’s notice (more if immediate transfer is needed) and make sure to have an alternate title ready.
7. All Kits are stored at the Main branch, but after confirmation of reservation, may be sent to any branch to be picked up after 4 days.
8. At any time, two (2) kits can be checked out to any single patron and up to 10 additional titles requested.
9. Kits must be returned to the library when it is open, as they will not fit into the drop boxes.
10. All materials in each kit must be returned together and a library staff member will inventory the kit upon return.
11. There is a daily late fee of $.25 a day for a kit returned after the due date, and fines will also be charged for lost or damaged materials.
12. If your group happens to lose a book, you can replace it with another new condition paperback copy of the book (same edition/ISBN) or pay a replacement fee of $10.00, binder replacement is $10, bag replacement is $30.
13. If your group happens to lose a “Book Group Kit”, the cost to replace the entire kit is $140.00
