How to Use iPac, our online Catalog

Important! Please remember to logout
to protect your privacy when you are finished viewing your library card
information in iPac. Look for this icon in the upper right corner of your
screen:
If you are using a web accelerator, you may
have problems accessing iPac. Please try turning off your accelerator
while using the catalog
Look up a book or other item
All of our books, audiotapes, music CDs, videos, DVDs, language kits, and other
materials are listed in the library catalog. Magazine, newspaper, and journal articles can
be found in our Articles & Information
section.
To locate an item:
-
Go to our web site at http://www.mesalibrary.org
-
Click on the Catalog tab at the top of the screen.
-
Click on the Library
Catalog button to enter the catalog.
-
The catalog will load,
offering a search screen.
-
On this screen, you may search by words in a
title, words in a subject, an author's name, subject or exact title.
-
Under the tabs across the
top of the screen, there are other search options.
-
Audio/Visual - Use this
search screen to search the catalog for videos, DVDs, books on tape,
books on CD, music CDs, language kits, and interactive multimedia.
-
Advanced - Use Advanced
Search if you would like to search using more than one field, or if you
would like to limit or sort your search results.
-
History - History will
keep track of your searches while you are in our catalog. You may repeat a
previous search from this screen.
-
Type your search terms in
the search box of your choice.
-
If your search results in a
list of items, scroll through the list to find the desired item.
-
Click on the title of the
item to see if the item is available.
-
To place a hold on an item,
click on Request Item. You must have your Mesa library card number and PIN.
-
When you click on a title,
the Item Information screen displays. This screen offers many options,
including availability of the item, the option to Request the Item, the option
to Add to My List (create a list for your use), the option to click on a subject
heading to see other similar items or click on the author's name to see
a list of items the author has written.

Renew Materials
All library materials, except Express Readers, are renewable
twice provided that another person has not placed a hold on the item. You will need
your library card number and PIN to renew on iPac.

Go
to our web site at

Click
on the Catalog tab located at the top of the screen.

Click on the Library
Catalog button to enter the catalog.

Click
on the My Account tab across the top of the screen.
-
Type in your Library card number and PIN.
-
Click
on Login.
-
In
your Items Checked Out list, click once on the checkbox next to the item you want to
renew to put a checkmark in the box.
-
Click
on the Renew button at the top of the screen.
-
If
your renewal is successful, your new due date will be listed in the Items
Checked Out list.
-
To
protect your privacy, logout of iPac using the Logout link at upper
right-hand corner of the screen.

Place Holds
Please note:
-
Items are not ready for pick up immediately after you place a hold. Please wait
until we notify you that the item is ready for pick up.
-
If
the item is Checked In, please call the library at
480-644-2207. You cannot
place a hold using our online catalog if the item is available on the shelf.
-
If the item is Checked Out, you will be added to the
waiting list for the item.
-
We will notify you when your item is ready for pick up.
-
To place a hold on a specific volume of a set, please call the library
at 480-644-2207.
How to Place a Hold:
-
Follow
the instructions above for Locating Materials Owned by the Library Using
iPac.
-
Once
you have located the item you would like to place on hold, click on the
title of the item.
-
Click
on Request Item, a small button on the right-hand side of your
screen.
-
Enter
your Mesa Library card number and PIN.
-
Click
on Login.
-
On
the Request Confirmation screen, use the dropdown box to select the library
location for pick up.
-
Click
on Request.
-
Click
on Return to Searching.
-
To
protect your privacy, logout of iPac using the Logout link at upper
right-hand corner of the screen.
-
For each hold not picked up, a 50 cent charge will be added to your card.

Check
Your Due Dates
-
Go

Click

Click on the Library
Catalog button to enter the catalog.

Click
on the My Account tab at the top of the screen.

Type in your Library card number and PIN.

Click
on Login.

Your
Overview screen will be displayed.

Click
on Items Checked Out to see your list of items checked out and your due dates.

To

right-hand corner of the screen.

Check
for Items Overdue, Fines, or Holds
-
Go

Click
on the Catalog tab located at the top of the screen.

Click on the Library
Catalog button to enter the catalog.

Click
on the My Account tab at the top of the screen.

Type in your Library card number and PIN.
-
Click
on Login.

Your
Overview screen will be displayed.

To
see if you have any overdue items, click on Items Checked Out' to see
your due dates or click on Fines/Overdues to see if you have any overdue
items.

To
see if you have any fines, click on Fines/Overdues.
-
To
see items on your Holds list, click on Holds or Hold Requests.
-
To

right-hand corner of the screen.

Cancel
a Hold
-
Go
to our web site at

Click
on the Catalog tab located at the top of the screen.

Click on the Library
Catalog button to enter the catalog.

Click
on the My Account tab at the top of the screen.
-
Type in your Library card number and PIN.
-
Click
on Login.
-
Your
Overview screen will be displayed.

Click
on Holds or Hold Requests. Your Holds list will be displayed.
-
Click
in the checkbox next to the title you would like to cancel to select it.
-
Click
on Cancel my Hold. Your hold is automatically cancelled.
-

right-hand corner of the screen.

Change your PIN
or Email Address
-
If you have a PIN that is anything other than 4 digits
you will need to change it in person at any City of Mesa Library. You will
be unable to change your PIN online.
-
Go
to our web site at

Click
on the Catalog tab located at the top of the screen.

Click on the Library
Catalog button to enter the catalog.
-
Click
on the My Account tab at the top of the screen.
-
Type in your Library card number and PIN.
-
Click
on Login.
-
Your
Overview screen will be displayed.
-
Click
on Profile.
-
To
change your email address, scroll
down to see your Email Information. Input a new email address in the box provided
on the screen.
-
Click
on Update.
-
To
change your PIN, scroll down to Personal Identification Number (PIN). You
must know your old PIN in order to change it.
-
Enter
your old PIN and new PIN in the boxes provided. Your PIN must be numerals
only, 4 digits long.
-
Click
on Update.
-
To

right-hand corner of the screen.

Create a Temporary List of Items using My List
Creating a temporary list:
You can create a temporary list of library materials that
will last for the length of your search session by clicking Add to my
list next to any item. If you change your mind, click Remove.
Creating a list in My Account that will last for one month
To create a personal list that will be kept for 1 month,
you must log in to the My Account in the Library Catalog. Remember to Logout
when you are finished to protect your privacy.

Click on My Account and login with your Mesa library card
number and PIN.
-
Click on Search Catalog and conduct a search for an item
(see How to Look up a book or other item above).
-
To add the item to My List, click on the Add to my list
button at the right.
-
To view My List, click the My List link at the top of the
screen. My List displays all of the items you have selected.
Other My List Features:
-
Items can be sorted by clicking the heading in the blue
bar.
-
Remove items from your list by checking the box and
clicking Remove.
-
You can place requests from within your list by clicking
Request Item.
-
You can also email your list by clicking the Email this
list link.
-
To create a new list, check the desired items and select
[New List] from the drop-down menu. Enter a name for your new list and click
OK.
-
To move items from one list to another, check the boxed
beside the desired item and select the destination list from the upper-left
drop down menu. You can select which list to view from the upper-right drop
down menu.
