We're partnering with the City of Mesa's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program to host a second year of the Bike to Books contest! Mesa invites kids in prekindergarten to 12th grade to design bike symbol art for a City of Mesa shared use path. The contest aims to encourage Mesa residents to bike more, read more books and look for opportunities to combine the two by biking to a public library or neighborhood little library.Prizes (per grade bracket)
Grand Prize: Bike art design installed by City of Mesa's striping crews on a shared use path in Mesa.*
Honorable Mentions: Winners will receive a certificate signed by city leadership and showcased on our channels.
*Location, timing and final version of the winning design will be determined by City of Mesa staff. Some artistic license may be used to ensure the designs work with the materials we use and how it's installed.

How to enter
Pick up an entry form at any Mesa Public Library location or print the below form. Return your entry form to a staff member by July 31. Please note: staff at the Mesa Express Library are available Monday through Friday, 9 - 10am.

Judging
Winners will be judged on the following: originality, creativity, whimsy
Colors to use: black, white, yellow, blue, green, red, orange, purple, light blue, grey, and pink.
Contest rules

Entry must be the original artwork of children in the following grade brackets: prekindergarten to 2nd grade, 3rd through 6th grade and 7th through 12th grade. Multiple entries are welcome.

Mesa Public Library will contact winners by phone or email on or around August 21 and post winning entries to the City of Mesa website and social media accounts.

Entries will be accepted at any Mesa Public Library.

By submitting artwork, the Parent/Guardian consents to the use of the child’s name, artwork and/or quote on materials that promote the City of Mesa programs and activities. If you would prefer your child’s name not to be used, please initial on the indicated space on the entry form

There are no monetary prizes associated with winning this contest or for the use of artwork or quotes on the City of Mesa materials.

Entries must be received no later than July 31, 2024.

By submitting a design, you promise that the artwork you submitted: is your original creation; has not been copied in whole or in part from any other work; does not say bad or false things about other people; and has never been previously published or submitted to any other competition.

The decisions of the judges are final and binding. The City of Mesa's Transportation Department Bicycle and Pedestrian Program and Mesa Public Library will attempt to notify the parents/guardians of winners using the information provided in the entry form by the end of business on August 21, 2024. If a winner’s parent or guardian cannot be contacted or does not respond within 48 hours of the first contact attempt if a winner does not fulfill the eligibility requirements if a winner does not adhere to the Official Rules, or if the prize notification is returned as undeliverable, that winner will be disqualified and contest organizers may select a new potential winner by the same criteria set forth above.
